Hard City Refugee Camp – 2008.05.16

Sitting on the Porch with jay-z reasonable doubt. Sun? Check.

Looking to get diverted?

“MUTO” by Blu is an animation made from painting walls and the sidewalk on some street, I don’t know, I can’t really describe it. Jus watch it ok? This video blew my mind 4-6 times. Dude even made sound effects, but I think Brooklyn’s Finest is more appropriate backing soundtrack, so mute it? Maybe..

Hard City Refugee Camp – 2008.05.08

Finally starting to get nice enough weather to grill meat and eat it outside. Trying out a wideangle lens on these..

Oh technical note, I recommend you load this post up in SAFARI and not firefox because safari supports the color profiles that my camera uses (and firefox or IE explorer for that matter dont at least until firefox 3 comes out..) and so instead of washed out and slightly blurry rendering that firefox and IE explorer will show you with these pictures, safari makes them look f’n fantastic!  that’s all.

Wenatchee River – 2008.05.03

Colin and Eric, love them, but dont get to see them nearly enough. While we were all sitting on our asses this spring break, they were becoming certified white water rafting tour guides.

This wasn’t really that surprising, as I already found out, when while we were all sitting on our asses last summer they pooled their money and bought a sailboat together.

So anyway, me and Vik headed up to Leavenwurth (that quaint retarded fake german town after Steven’s Pass) Saturday morning May 3rd to don wetsuits and see what these boys have been up to.

Ended up covering 16 miles of the Wenatchee River, taking up pretty much the whole day, and having a pretty awesome day. It was overcast all day, and I had to ride Colin’s boat with his dad/my boss giving me peer pressure to ride the front of our raft (bucking bronco style) through a rapid the whole day, but besides that, this was a really awesome day. Thanks Colin and Eric!

RaftingAnimation.gif

Made this animation from some pictures I stole off the website of some person taking pictures as we came in to the last rapid of the day. Colin’s the captain in the back with the funny hat, the rest of the folks are clockwise, Colin’s sister Chelsea, Kneel, Me, Chelsea boyfriend, Craig/boss, and Craig’s girlfriend Sharon. So our boat was all in the family (me adopted).

Rafting15.jpg
Vik’s boat was captained by Colin’s girlfriend Ariahna. You can see Buxton with signiture wayfarers+ZincOxideNose look right behind him.. (He was sporting the same look when we all got MIPs at SeaFair last summer..bastard)

One more picture, I just think there’s something funny about Vik going on here that I can’t put my finger on:

Anyone agree?

Thanks again Eric and Colin!

SEATTLE – 2008.05.12

I LOVE JAY-Z!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m breaking my two month silence by posting like a hundred pictures of shhhtuff that’s happened since the last time I posted. Which, was March 3rd, a thousand days ago.

I’ve just got like a massive folder, so I’ll post them and jog my memory at the same time, so apparently, here’s some stuff I’ve done.

+ Went to see Justice at the showbox sodo,

And surprise, the Weber Clan was there!

20080325-Justice-WeberClan(640)

Thani, Rob’s bro Jake, Tank Todd, etc, lots of sweat all over everyone.

20080325-Justice-ThaniJake(640)
+ Drove down to Vancouver WA and Portland

To stay at Rob’s family’s with Rob and Tank Todd for a few days.

20080327-Portland-Rob’sHouse(640)

We mostly hung around Portland, a short 10 minutes away, ate Rob’s parent’s cooking, watched Metalocalypse any time we needed to get pumped up to leave the house, and gained fascinating insight in to Rob’s childhood.

In Old Town Portland there were two awesome places I was super city jealous that they had that Seattle didn’t.

1. Backspace

20080326-Portland-Backspace01(640)

This place was a massive open area, walls lined with couches and paintings, combination Cafe, networked gaming, music venue, computer hardware stand, and overall excellent creative space. A room in the back had 10 PCs and I actually saw some starcraft going down. The folks sitting around that red beam in the left side of the picture were programming while another was leafing through the newest copy of All-Star Superman that was put out by the staff in a community comics rack right there on the table! That treehouse thing is where the mixing board stuff is for the stage in the back corner.

Man! All we have for cafes to work with back home is bullshit overcrowded-can’t-find-a-seat Trabant or Choclat-face (with 4:5 Mac per Capita ratio), and as for Starcraft-per-capita? Zero-to-zero.

2. Floating World Comics

Less than a block away was Floating World Comics, one of those awesome comic shops I always read about on the Internet but no one has bothered to open in Seattle yet. One that creates an atmosphere more akin to get NEW people, non comics-people, into the shops. This turns out to be a pretty obvious task, get some natural light in the shops (instead of covering all the windows with decade old advertisements for some ultra geeky DC crossover event), dont even bother stocking porn or action figures, and carry more of the independent publishers that get art people in there. Floating World was completely run by this young dude who knew how what a good idea it is to stock old Paul Pope THB comics that you can’t even find anywhere on the internet, AND, he had two of the Jame Jean Process Recess vol. 2 portfolios. This would be the last time I knew I would ever see one in shrinkwrap, so I had to buy it.

It’s no SECRET HEADQUARTERS, but still.

I go to Prom again

SEATTLE – 2008.03.05 – Capitol Hill

My friend Erin comes up to me, and she’s like: “please dont make fun of me, there is this cool thing that I think would be a lot of fun, but oh my god dont hit me, let’s go to THIS:”

20080305 - CenturyProm - 640 - (6 of 8)
30-somethings, getting loose, girl front left is..um…

“THIS” being  a 21+ Prom of Every/Any era, at the Century Ballroom.  So I listened to her description of the thing, based on an internet flyer, “free champagne fountain”, “wear prom costumes from any time-period”, “playing prom classics of the times”. blahdy blah. sounds great.

What we saw when we got there was….interesting.

3 things for sure:

1. We were the youngest folks in the room (by an average of 10 years).

2. People who frequent the Century Ballroom are really good at Salsa dancing and Tango dancing, two sexy/legitimate dance styles I can NOT fake my way through.  When I dance, I flail limbs to the rhythym and jump around really fast and confuse you in to thinking I can dance.  This is a farce though, oh god help me.

3.  I think we may have read a little too much in to the costumey aspect of the flyer.  You can see from that picture above that people were pretty conservative, throwing on legitimate tuxes, and maybe a couple cinderella dresses.  Uhhhhh, this gave us yet another way to stick out…see..

Me, my bootyfull date Karen, and Rob and his boo Erin basically showed up wearing halloween costumes, expecting a huge GLBT drag show and crazy people where WE would be the underdressed ones, etc etc.  Check it:

20080305 - CenturyProm - 640 - (1 of 8)
Erin:  Blue crushed velvet & the biggest ponytail everrr… Karen: Sparkly Disco Ball dress (with turtlenecking ala wetsuit) and hair all crimped the bleep out.

20080305 - CenturyProm/20080305 - CenturyProm - 640 - (2 of 8)
Rob with the Flock of Seagulls hair that had me hearing literally everywhere we went from strangers, “hey that dude totally has flock of seagulls hair”…

20080305 - CenturyProm - 640 - (5 of 8)
And I went with the 80s Miami coked-out-wearing-polyester-pants look that for some reason my closet just had all the appropriate pieces for.   I guess I bought a lot of weird stuff from value village in high school..  Oh yea, also rocking the famous stupid-face that ruins all my pictures with pretty girls.

Dont let this talk fool you though, we still had a blast, and even though 90% of the music was salsa (uhhh, that’s not what I’d expect in my prom’s of the eras..) we still got some disco and funky stuff in there that we actually knew how to dance too.

And, free disgustingly flat champagne out of this pathetic little fountain.  Hahaha, it was awesome.

Old-man McFly is up on the stage by the screen.  Man yer Biff Turrets, butthead.
